  1. IS ICAR COMPULSORY FOR BSC AGRICULTURE BSc Agriculture has become one of the top choices among all the courses that students pursue after 10+2. It has a great career scope and students from all over India pursue this course but a question that always comes to their mind is – Is ICAR necessary for BSc Agriculture? The answer to this is NO. There is a lot of confusion among students regarding ICAR. So, first of all it is important to know about ICAR. Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an autonomous body responsible for co-ordinating agricultural education and research in India. It is has no right or authority to give recognition or approval to any university or college to start B.Sc Agriculture course. A college must be approved by University Grants Commission (UGC) which is a must. Students must understand that just like JEE entrance exam, ICAR also conducts an entrance exam. By qualifying ICAR entrance exam, students get admission in ICAR affiliated colleges or government colleges. But it does not have any concerned with government job. Some students have a misunderstanding that doing B.Sc Agriculture from a non ICAR affiliated college makes them ineligible for appearing in exams held for government jobs. But it is not so. Students can appear for exam such as UPSC (IFS), SSC, IBPS (AO), FCI, NABARD, NDDB, etc. after completing B.Sc Agriculture from any college affiliated to a recognized university. Thus, it is very clear and obvious that ICAR approval is not necessary for B.Sc Agriculture and students must understand this before taking admission in B.Sc Agriculture.
