The Toronto region is rapidly growing as one of Canada's fastest growing cities. Although the rate of youth and single-parent families are contributing to the increase in the overall population, more than half of the people in the Toronto area are over the age of forty, which is significantly higher than other Canadian cities. As a solution to the growing problem of homeless people, the Canadian charity Haven can help. By partnering up with Toronto Star reporter Michael Craig, Haven offers its services to individuals who are at an age where they would be considered unsheltered. The volunteerism of Haven provides clients with the ability to prepare healthy meals 3 times daily, clean up dirty laundry and change clothes in addition to take part in other recreational and fitness activities. The services are free for individuals who are age fifty or older. If you want to get involved, all you have to do is call Haven.

  7. Haven operates under the name "AIDS Mobile" and partners with organizations that focus on fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS throughout the city. It is also a part of the Toronto Community Furniture initiative. Across the United States, Haven operates mobile stations called "Haven on Wheels", which provide access to affordable furniture on a weekly basis. While participating in this program, participants are given free transportation. However, in order to qualify for inclusion in the program, participants must be age fifty or older. If you would like to get involved in Haven, you can call or visit their website.Puffs Haven
