It is popular for its beautiful beaches and beach shacks that give a very picturesque view. If you look at the serene churches in Goa, you will be able to see a glimpse of Portuguese culture in them. This is because Goa was ruled by the Portuguese and not the British. This happened till the late 1961. In the near past there have been new laws that have been passed which enable Goans to get Portuguese citizenship. Which Goans are eligible to get Portuguese nationality? A Goan can obtain a Portuguese Citizenship Through Ancestry if he or she is the grandchild of grandparents who were residents of Goa before 1961. After a person dies, his or her family members can apply for the deceased’s Portuguese nationality. Being married to a person with Portuguese passport will also help you get a Portuguese nationality. Getting a Portuguese nationality does not depend on the place you were born as long as your parents lived in Goa during the 1961 when Portugal ruled over Goa. Considerations to be made before applying for a Portuguese citizenship: Before applying for a Portugal Passport for Indian national, he or she should make sure they have all the required documents which are: 1.Birth certificate 2.Marriage certificate 3.Attested residence proof with an attached photograph 4.In case you are born after 1961, you need to show proof that your parents both were born in Goa and were married in Goa before 1961.
