As I read further, I realized that the deep- rootedissuesofhungerandmalnourishmenthadgottensignificantlyworsedue to the pandemic. Migrant and daily wage workers, families residing in slum areas, and individuals staying at old age homes or orphanages suffered as they went to sleeponanemptystomacheveryday. These facts disturbed me, and I wanted to do my bit to help these people in need. After doing thorough research, I found out that numerous social organizations have been extending a strong hand of support to these vulnerable communities during these grim times. Food NGOs in Indiahave been working on the ground to help restore the levelofnourishmenttheseindividualsneedat atimewhen keeping health in good shape has become critical. These organizations have been helpingtosolvethefoodcrisisintwomainways: 1.Distributionofcookedmeals:FoodNGOshavebeenprovidingwarm, fully cooked meals to communities in need. I read that these meals contain enough nourishmentso thatindividualscangoabouttheirdaywithout feelingweakorlethargic.
2.Distributionofrationpackets: NGOshavealso beendistributingration packetsto ensuresustenanceamongstthese vulnerablecommunities. Packets usuallycontaindailycookingessentialsincluding rice,pulses, grains, bread,sugar,andbiscuitssothatfamiliescanpreparemeals themselves. Ialsoobservedthat theseNGOsweregivingutmostprioritytothemaintenanceof safety and hygiene standards. While I was going through a few images I noticed thatallthevolunteerswerewearingglovesandmasks,andthemealswerepacked properlytopreventanycontamination.AnNGOrepresentativeIspoketoalsotold me that all staff members and volunteers are also monitored for symptoms, and hygiene is maintained in kitchen areas through frequent sanitization and cleaning aswell. As new variants of coronavirus continue to emerge, it is becoming increasingly important forall ofusto showsolidarity whilefightingthishealth and humanitarian crisis.
