It is one of the prestigious civil services in India, along with the Indian Police Service (IPS) and the Indian Forest Service (IFS). The IAS officers are responsible for the administration of various government departments and agencies at both the central and state levels. To become an IAS officer, a candidate needs to qualify in the Civil Services Examination (CSE), which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) of India. The CSE is a three- stage examination that consists of the Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Interview. It is considered one of the toughest competitive exams in the world. The IAS officers play a vital role in the governance of the country. They are responsible for implementing various government policies and programs, ensuring law and order, and providing essential services to the citizens. Some of the key functions of the IAS officers are as follows:
