  1. Migration of Database through Amazon Web Service AWS DMS (Amazon Web Service Database Migration Service) helps organizations to migrate databases to AWS safely and securely. It also replicates data continuously with high availability and consolidates databases into petabyte-scale data warehouse through data streaming to Amazon Redshift or Amazon S3. The critical advantage here is that during the migration process, the source database from where data is moved remains fully functional.

  2. Benefits of AWS data migration There are several benefits of AWS data migration. • All widely-used databases are supported by AWS data migration service. Hence, businesses can transfer data quickly between existing on-premises databases to Amazon RDS, Amazon EC2, or Aurora as well as databases running on EC2 to RDS or vice versa.

  3. Additional drivers and applications are not required to be installed for AWS data migration as the process can be initiated directly from the AWS Management Console. • Systems are not required to be shut down during migration as all changes made at the source database are continuously replicated to the target database.

  4. Additional drivers and applications are not required to be installed for AWS data migration as the process can be initiated directly from the AWS Management Console. • Systems are not required to be shut down during migration as all changes made at the source database are continuously replicated to the target database.

  5. However, a data migration process cannot be initiated directly on the AWS data migration service. Instead, a replication task has to be started first that includes specifying the task settings like the replication instance that will run the activities that mark the source and the target databases. • Choices for AWS data migrationOrganizations deciding on database migration have a choice of how to go about it. • Full load migration: This is a recommended procedure when it is possible to shut down the systems long enough to fully copy the data from the source to the target. Tables are automatically created whenever required.

  6. Change Data Capture: Only the changes made at the source database after the last run is replicated to the target database at preset intervals. The type of AWS data migration opted for depends largely on the specific needs of organizations.

  7. Types of AWS data migration There are two types of AWS data migration. Homogeneous database migration: This method is chosen when the engines of both the source and the target database match each other. Data migration can be completed in one step as the schema structure, data types, and data codes are the same. Examples of this type of data migration to AWS are Oracle to Amazon RDS for Oracle, MySQL to Amazon Aurora, MySQL to Amazon RDS for MySQL, or Microsoft SQL Server to Amazon RDS for SQL Server. Heterogeneous database migration: Here, the engines of the source and target databases, schema structures, data types, and data codes are not the same. AWS automatically handles the conversions to the required data type during the migration. Examples include Oracle to Amazon Aurora, Oracle to PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server to MySQL migrations. • There are benefits and processes of AWS data migration.
