  2. Overview • Barite is a mineral that is made up of barium sulphate and is found in nature. It may be obtained in the form of barite lumps as well as barite powder, depending on the source. Barite gets its name from the Greek word "barys," which means "heavy" in English. • Barite may be found in association with both metallic and nonmetallic mineral deposits, depending on the location.
