  2. WHAT IS IT? Psoriatic arthritis is an inflammatory arthritis that can develop in psoriasis patients. Arthritis can affect a variety of joints as well as other organs such as the eyes and gastrointestinal system.   4. CAUSES OF CONDITION The specific cause of psoriatic arthritis is unknown. Psoriatic arthritis affects 40% of people who have a family member who has psoriasis or arthritis, implying that heredity may play a role. Psoriasis is not infectious in and of itself, but it can be induced by a streptococcal throat infection, sometimes known as strep throat.
