  1. Waterproofing Methods Used in Construction The process of making an object or structure water-resistant so that it remains unaffected by water and unwanted moisture does not seep into the walls under specified conditions is known as waterproofing. Waterproof Treatment Waterproofing is used in reference to:- •Building structures, •Watercraft, •Canvas, •Clothing, •Electronic devices, and •Paper packaging. In construction, following are the areas where waterproofing is needed:-

  2. •Basement of the building •Kitchen, Toilet and Bathroom •Balcony areas •Roof /Terrace •Swimming Pool •Water Tank Types of Waterproofing Different types of waterproofing systems can be installed indoors or outdoors depending on water level damage, application area and preference of owners. Depending on the application area, different methods of Waterproofing are:- 1.Cementitious Coating 2.Polyurethane 3.Bituminous waterproof membrane 4.EPDM Rubber 5.Thermoplastic 6.Rubberized Asphalt 7.PVC Membrane Cementitious Coating This method uses cement and silica-based substances to create a moisture barrier for walls and floors. These substances combined with lime work as a waterproofing sealant. Cement waterproofing materials are particularly easy to mix and apply.

  3. Flexible Cementitious Waterproofing Cementitious Waterproofing is used in following structures:- •Water treatment plants •Sewage Treatment Plants •Bridges •Dams •Railway and metro systems •Sea cargo port and docks •River locks / canals and concrete dykes •Parking structures •Tunnels

  4. Polyurethane Made up by mixing a base and a reactor is a specific ratio, Polyurethane creates a liquid coating for waterproofing applications. Polyurethane liquid membrane waterproofing method will fill all capillary cracks and decrease water absorbency of concrete. It is easy to install, has a seamless finish and high durability. It is easy to install, has a seamless finish and high durability. Polyurethane Waterproofing Treatment Application areas of Polyurethane Waterproofing are:- •Water tanks •Pedestrian decks •Balconies •Roof •Bridges •Parking Bituminous Waterproof Membrane Bituminous waterproofing systems protect residential and commercial buildings. Bitumen coating, asphalt or coal-tar pitch coating is a substance made up of organic liquids that are highly sticky. Its viscous quality makes it an extremely powerful roof waterproofing material. Sometimes, these systems are used to construct roofs, in the form of roofing felt or roll roofing products.

  5. Roof Waterproofing using Bituminous Membrane The bituminous membrane offers excellent protection against water; however, it gets damaged by very high temperature and UV rays. When modified with acrylic or polyurethane-based polymers, this risk can be easily prevented. The material is made mainly from crude oil and is combustible. Therefore, it is not considered a sustainable building product. EPDM Rubber EPDM is a synthetic rubber which is completely weather-resistant and UV-resistant. It has an extreme elasticity of more than 500%, which makes it the most flexible single ply membranes for waterproofing.

  6. EPDM Roofing Installation It’s ideal for application in following areas:- •Roof •Windows •Wood •Sunken Slabs •Facades Thermoplastic Thermoplastic waterproofing method might not be the cheapest in the market but it offers excellent benefits. This material will transform from solid to semi-solid when heated allowing a professional to seal the sheets or panels together.

  7. Thermoplastic waterproofing would work great for:- •Oil booms •Spill protection •Inflatable watercraft •Splints •Storage bags •Pharmaceutical products •Fabrics and clothing Rubberized Asphalt Rubberized Asphalt works effectively to protect the home. If offers strength, flexibility, and moisture resistance making it highly durable and ideal for waterproofing treatment of the building.

  8. Waterproofing of roof using Rubberized Asphalt It is primarily found on:- •Commercial roofs •Cover of RVs and campers •Bridges •Plazas •Parking spaces PVC Membrane PVC membrane is another common roofing material that is made from polyvinylchloride (PVC). It is primarily used to waterproof roofs. This method is water resistant and vapor permeable. Apart from roofs, its other application areas are:- •Tunnels •Swimming pools •Underground structures

  9. PVC Membrane Waterproofing Sheets Reinforced or unreinforced membranes are equally beneficial. The reinforced membranes have high durability, while the latter have more flexibility. One thing that sets PVC apart from others is the fact that it is very easy to install, and it has a significantly longer service life. Conclusion Lastly, there are several types of waterproofing materials and none of them are similar. Some are more effective than others. Therefore, you must put in some time and effort to find out which one is going to work best for your individual requirement.
