They are used to prevent or correct an arrhythmia, a heartbeat that is uneven or that is too slow or too fast. Defibrillators also can restore the heart's beating if one's heart suddenly stops. A D efibrillator This high energy electric shock is called defibrillation. The aim with this shock is to go back a heart to its normal working state if it goes into cardiac arrest. is a device that sends a high energy electric shock through the heart. External defibrillators are life-saving medical devices used to supply defibrillating shock through paddles or electrode pads to diagnose and restore life-threatening abnormal heart rhythms in the conditions of unexpected cardiac arrest. These devices are capable of performing cardioversion, defibrillation, and pacing of the heart. External defibrillators are of three major types, namely manual external defibrillator, AEDs and WCDs.
