Sandeep Bakhshi, ICICI Bank is India’s 2nd highest paid banker For ICICI Bank, 2018 was a tough year that eventually led to the then managing director and CEO, Chanda Kochhar, to step down from her position. Chanda Kochhar’s exit paved the way for Sandeep Bakhshi to step in as the head of the bank. He is now making headlines for being one of highest-paid bankers in India. He’s only second to HDFC Bank CEO, Aditya Puri, who is at the top spot with an annual salary of ₹18.92 crore. Who is Sandeep Bakhshi Sandeep Bakhshi was appointed as the MD and CEO of ICICI Bank in October 2018, and according to a report in The Times of India, his appointment is for a period of five years that will end on October 3, 2023. As per the bank’s official website, Sandeep Bakhshi, an XLRI Jamshedpur alumnus, has been with the company for nearly 32 years, and has worked in various verticals such as ICICI Lombard General Insurance and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance to name a few. Prior to his appointment as the CEO, the seasoned banker was working as the bank’s Wholetime Director and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Founded in 1994, ICICI Bank is one of India’s leading private sector banks that provides banking and financial services such as retail banking, corporate banking and treasury operations.   2. According to a report in The Economic Times (ET), Sandeep Bakhshi is the second highest earning banker for FY 2019-20 with an annual salary of ₹6.31 crore. The report further mentions that he earned an annual salary of ₹4.90 crore (approximately) in FY 2018-19. Other highest-paid bankers According to Business Standard, apart from Aditya Puri and Sandeep Bakhshi, other highest-paid bankers include Axis Bank’s MD and CEO Amitabh Chaudhry at third position with ₹6.01 crore and Kotak Mahindra Bank’s CEO Uday Kotak at number four with ₹2.97 crore. Sashidhar Jagdishan, Group Head and Change Agent of HDFC Bank, who is among the candidates expected to succeed Aditya Puri, is also among the highest-paid bankers with an annual salary of ₹2.91 in FY 2019-20.
