  1. Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery RIRS

  2. A retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used for treating kidney stones and other conditions affecting the urinary tract. This procedure involves inserting a small flexible scope through the urethra, into the bladder, and then into the ureter and kidney. In order to locate the stone or other problem areas, the surgeon uses the scope to observe the inside of the kidney.

  3. Kidney Stone Treatment A kidney stone is likely to occur at some point in the life of approximately one out of ten individuals. There is a risk of kidney stones developing in 11% of men and 9% of women. The treatment for kidney stones in Kerala ranges from drinking sufficient amounts of water to surgery. Based on the size and symptoms of the stones, your doctor will recommend the level of treatment. In Kerala, retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) and minimal percutaneous nephrolithotomy (Mini PCNL) are the two most common kidney stone surgeries.

  4. Following the identification of the stone or problem area, the surgeon uses laser energy to disintegrate the stone into smaller pieces, which can then be removed through the scope or naturally passed through the urine. With a shorter recovery period and a lower risk of complications, RIRS offers a safe and effective alternative to open kidney stone surgeries.
