  2. W?O?! W?O?! If you are a parent, getting organised before the school day is very important. It will start your child’s day off great. You want everything in its place so your children know where to find what they need for their own day. Here are some ideas on how to get organised before the school morning starts:

  3. - Plan which days of week you will do laundry and have all clothes out on the bed or on top of drawers ready for folding. You can add iron-on clothing labels to the kids' clothes so people know whose are whose. -When kids get dressed for school, you should have already laid out their uniform on their bed. The kids would help pick out what colours go best together - it makes them feel like big kids! Have shoes clean and at their spot next to or under the dresser, not blocking doorways. Pick up dirty clothes from off the floor and make beds every morning if possible/time permitting. You will need to have kids name labels on everything they wear, especially school clothes and backpacks. This way if clothing gets lost or mixed up with another child's it will be returned promptly.

  4. -Label kids lunch containers, backpacks, water bottles and more so kids know where to find what they need to take with them during the day. Place each child's name on something different so every child knows which container belongs to them. -Pack lunch the night before. Have children help with this task! Pack a book bag or backpack to go at least 24 hours before checking it again. Also put in any other items needed like lunch money, permission slips and check the backpack daily for forgotten items. You can use pre-made kids name labels or have personalised name stickers made up at a local wholesale name label printer.

  5. -Don't be late! Be ready 30 minutes before departure time/morning pick up times especially if you are driving other siblings to school as well; it will avoid traffic jams of cars all trying to leave at once. -Store backpacks out of sight near the door where they will hang theirs on a hook or place in a cubby next to the dresser. Make sure they have a healthy snack right before going outside, nothing too messy as many schools have a "no outside food/drink" policy. If your child is very active, encourage them to use energy doing something else in another room so you can quickly shower in peace without being interrupted every 5 seconds! Help smaller children get on coats, hats and mittens or gloves if needed. Place bags or backpacks by the door in a spot that is easy for kids to get themselves.

  6. Doing this daily will get kids in the habit of getting themselves ready and out the door quickly for school each day. It might be hard to start but kids should understand that there is not much time before leaving for school and it's important to make sure we leave on time.

  7. Parents, if your kids need help with getting dressed, make sure they do their best to put clothes on right or you can opt to dress them yourself instead; letting kids choose what they want to wear (if possible) and kids learn a lot by helping parents get ready every morning. Kids, if you need help take initiative and ask for help or you can offer to help parents get ready in the morning by helping kids get dressed, set table, put laundry away, fold laundry with parents and kids can even help with dinner as kids have more energy after school.
