  1. 44 INTERVIEW RECYCLING EQUIPMENT ‘ELV recycling is the new trend which will catch up’ Sudhir Gupta of Advance Hydrau-Tech talks about recycling machine manufacturing sector in India and its trends

  2. INTERVIEW 'ELV recycling is the new trend which will catch up' talks about the current situation on policy front, trends in the machinery & equipment sector and new innovations. Tell us about your recent product innovations Few of our latest products have generat- ed huge demand and would continue to do so in the coming 3-5 years. The first being the Car Baler. We have designed and successfully installed India’s first state-of-the-art car baler for the End-of-Life-Vehicle (ELV) scrap- ping facility in Noida by Maruti. Set up as a result of JV between Maruti Suzuki India and Toyota Tsusho Group, MSTI was inaugurated by Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways. The car baler can bale up to 15 cars per hour. The USP of the machine is that it can process complete cars into compact bales that are suitable for smelting in all kinds of furnaces. The second is our Continuous Shear. It can process a wide variety of ferrous MATERIAL RECYCLING DEC 2021 - JAN 2022 and non-ferrous metal scrap - sheet metal scrap, automobile scrap, car/ ELV bodies, pipe, and selected HMS, etc. It has been developed to complement box shears (or inclined shears) to suit the needs of scrap processors processing up to 15 tonnes per hour. The third machine is the automatic paper balers. We are the pioneers in introducing automatic balers to the Indian paper recycling industry and are the perfect solution for recyclers and traders handling large quantities of waste such as paper waste, OCC/ corru- gated boxes, PET bottles, plastic, foam, rubber, textile and fabric waste, packing material, etc. These have processing power of up to 20 tonne per hour. Since its launch in 2016, we have installed over 50 automatic balers and are still counting. The next is the casting crackers, the perfect solution for breaking/crushing engines, differential (gear boxes) or any kind of castings of aluminium, brass or CI. Castings can be cracked into pieces in order to segregate the different met- als, hence making transportation and feeding of the castings into the furnace more convenient and cost effective. We are excited to introduce shredders of the international standard that has been designed using the patented tech- nology of Newell Recycling Equipment, USA (the world’s foremost experts in designing and building shredders) and manufactured in India using our ex- pertise. We are sure that this will bring a breakthrough in the Indian recycling industry and eliminate all the short- comings of the current shredders being used in India. The USP of this shredder 44

  3. RECYCLING EQUIPMENT Baler installed at MSTI The policy makers should work towards drafting a comprehensive policy that provides end-to-end guidelines for the recycling sector lies in its robust, cost-effective design and can be easily installed in medium to big size furnaces. power. The companies are strategically in- vesting into enhancing their capacities and we are excited about that because the greater the recycling rates and better yields the recyclers achieve, the stronger will be the business. And being the leaders in the industry, we are also gearing up to increase production and cater to the increasing market demand. There is also an increase in demand for proper deigning and setting up of complete scrap processing house (SPH) following the CSSD framework for scrap processing that was developed and propagated by us. Since the last decade, our company has focused on the con- cept of optimization in steel production through scrap processing route, which has been very well received and has gained many followers. Processing and recycling End-of-Life What are some recent trends in machinery and equipment segment in the recycling industry? First and foremost, what I have ob- served recently is that the steel makers are becoming more aware about the advantages of scrap processing and recycling. To cater to bigger size furnaces, there is an upward trend in the demand of bigger, high productivity equipment to handle more scrap in terms of quantity as well as complexity. Also, until now, the auxiliary equip- ment needed to feed the scrap pro- cessing equipment were not much in demand but the same has increased in order to reduce cost as well as man- Car Baler MATERIAL RECYCLING DEC 2021 - JAN 2022 45

  4. INTERVIEW vehicles is the new trend that will catch up very fast in India Last but not the least, the use of IoT that recycling is an industry that is always going to be in demand. Besides the environmental benefits, it has huge economic benefits for the businesses as well as the country. Continuous Shear (Internet of Things) data to prevent breakdowns and improve efficiencies is also making its way in the system. Where in India do you get more business? We are the leading manufacturers of scrap processing equipment for a variety of scrap such as metal, paper, plastic as well as agricultural waste. Hence, we are delighted to receive business from all over the country. As recycling rates are increasing in the country, so is the demand for high- ly-efficient and high-productive scrap processing equipment. As far as recycling hubs are con- cerned, we benefit a lot from word-of- mouth publicity in these areas. Once we install a machine in any recycling hub, increased business follows as a result of the positive reviews we receive. How favourable are Indian policies and regulations for recycling equipment manufacturers today? Currently, the Government policies are not providing substantial benefits on the ground especially for companies like us. Recently, the ELV policy has gen- erated much interest in car scrapping but the policies are still unclear and not relevant to Indian conditions. Owing to urgent need to reduce pollution, and improve recycling rates, I would recommend that the policy makers should work towards drafting a comprehensive policy that provides end-to-end guidelines for the recycling sector, offer support to the recycling sector in all areas such as land, financ- ing, incentives, etc. I strongly believe I strongly believe that recycling is an industry that is always going to be in demand. Besides the environmental benefits, it has huge economic benefits for the businesses as well as the Though you have mentioned before, what are the other reasons the increase in demand for better equipment? As mentioned before, with the advent of bigger furnaces and recycling facilities, scrap traders and recyclers are recognizing the advantages of scrap processing and that too using highly efficient equipment to reduce costs. Since last four decades, our biggest achievement has been to offer complete recycling solutions that is best-suited to meet client requirements. We put an effort to fully understand and educate the customer about the entire process. Needless to say, our customers are our biggest brand evangelists, and our success is the result of keeping their requirements first. country Dispensing Bale 46 MATERIAL RECYCLING DEC 2021 - JAN 2022
