5. HISTORY Maharaja Bir Bikram Institution (MBB University) is a state university in the Indian state of Tripura. It the first, and as of 2017, the only, state university in the state of Tripura, and founded in 2015 by the Government of Tripura under the Maharaja Bir Bikram University Act, 2015. Gautam Kumar Basu was the university's first vice chancellor (VC). In December 2019, Satyadeo Poddar named VC. Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarman, the last governing maharaja of the princely state of Tripura, inspired the university's name.
