  13. Impact on Extracurricular Activities • Practice until 6:15 p.m. except for Wednesdays. • No junior high practice on non school days. (Mondays) • Events and activities will occur on Monday evenings as usual.

  14. Impact On Our Communities • School time is better aligned to parent job time. • Child Care – Issues quickly disappeared in schools currently on the 4 day week. • Community education courses will be offered to train older students as babysitters.

  15. Estimated Savings • Substitute Teacher Costs $10,298 • Transportation Costs $65,000 • Energy Savings $5,780 • Maintenance Costs $3,611 • Faculty Transportation $994 Estimated General Fund Savings +/- $85,683

  16. Research Findings

  17. Students • Students report having a better attitude toward school. • Longer class periods allow for more material to be covered. • ACT scores reported to be the same or higher. • Improved student attendance. • Student appointments can be scheduled for off days. • More time for the family. • Day to “de-stress” for the super-involved student.

  18. Mondays could be used to: • Complete homework • Work on projects • Work a part-time job • Do community service

  19. Teachers • Fewer absences – teachers can schedule appointments on off days. • Less need for substitute teachers equals a better education for students. • Longer class periods offer more time to focus on given projects. • More time to prep for the week’s classes. • Increased staff development time.

  20. Students will have their best chance at success when they are no longer serving time, but when time is serving them.
