About XELJANZ(Tofacitinib) XELJANZ (Tofacitinib) is the active ingredient of Xeljanz, is an immunosuppressant that blocks the action of Janus kinases, enzymes that play a crucial role in the process of inflammation and damage of the joints. Tofacitinib, by blocking the enzymes, reduces the inflammation and other symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis.

  3. XELJANZ is a prescription medicine called a Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor. XELJANZ is used to treat adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis in which methotrexate did not work well. It is not known if XELJANZ is safe and effective in people with Hepatitis B or C. XELJANZ is not for people with severe liver problems. It is not known if XELJANZ is safe and effective in children.   5. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION 1. XELJANZ XR (tofacitinib extended-release tablets) is not interchangeable or substitutable with XELJANZ Oral Solution. 2. Changes between XELJANZ and XELJANZ XR should be made by the healthcare provider [see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION]. 3. Do not initiate XELJANZ/XELJANZ XR/XELJANZ Oral Solution in patients with an absolute lymphocyte count less than 500 cells/mm³, an absolute neutrophil count (ANC) less than 1000 cells/mm³ or who have hemoglobin levels less than 9 g/dL. 4. Dose interruption is recommended for management of lymphopenia, neutropenia, and anemia [see WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS, ADVERSE REACTIONS]. 5. Interrupt use of XELJANZ/XELJANZ XR/XELJANZ Oral Solution if a patient develops a serious infection until the infection is controlled [see WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS]. 6.Take XELJANZ/XELJANZ XR/XELJANZ Oral Solution with or without food [see CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY]. 7.Swallow XELJANZ XR tablets whole and intact. Do not crush, split, or chew.
