What Is Diabetes • Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by hyperglycaemia resulting from the defects in insulin secretion insulin action or both! • Diabetes Mellitus, from Greek "siphon" and Latin "sweet," was first termed by Apollonius of Memphis in 250-300 BC. Ancient civilizations noticed the sweet nature of urine, leading to the term "Diabetes Mellitus."
