  2. Because of the success of home wireless networks (a.k.a. Wi-Fi), more and more people are opting for IP, or network, camera systems for their home surveillance needs. IP cameras provide much greater versatility than, claim, stand-alone surveillance cameras. Not only can you send the videos to every device on your network through an IP camera program, but the video clip can be transmitted across the Web to allow access from every machine (including internet-connected smartphones) that is not even a member of your network. It is usually called remote view, so you can also monitor so manipulate the video remotely in certain programs. IP cameras are accessible in both hard wired and wireless models, with the exception being that hardwired cameras have to be attached to the network via a network cable (usually a CAT5 Ethernet cable), while wireless IP cameras have a built-in wireless antenna (sometimes called a wireless adapter).

  3. Because wireless IP cameras are the most common because of their usability, in this article I'll focus on the wireless variety. For hardwired IP cameras, please realize that with one difference they operate in much the same manner-there is a wire linking it to the network. You can learn more at ip camera. Next, let's get out of the way with some terms. IP calls for Gateway to the Internet. There are several common protocols which are used in networking. IP is the Internet communication protocol and is used. The aim of this article is not to give you a tutorial on Internet Protocol (Wikipedia has a fantastic article about it), but rather how it is used to hold video using an IP device. Wi-Fi, a licensed trademark of The Wi-Fi Alliance, is a phrase used to define the infrastructure that helps electronic devices to share information over a wireless data network, including high-speed Internet connections.

  4. There are also other words which are widely used to characterize IP cameras only to clear the noise. IP camera, Wi-Fi camera, wi-fi protection camera, wireless internet camera, network camera, wireless monitor, internet surveillance camera, etc. are all words which imply precisely the same thing, so don't let that confuse you. A Wireless Access Point (WAP) is a system that enables connectivity to a network through Wi-Fi - enabled devices (smart phones, laptops , computers, etc.) It can be a stand-alone system connected to a router, although it is most generally incorporated into the router itself. If your router is a hybrid of wired / wireless router, so you can attach and link all hardwire computers wirelessly to it, the WAP is installed into the router.

  5. A portable IP camera includes an embedded Wi-Fi antenna, which is used to link to the wireless access point. Initial device setup and network linking is achieved by attaching the monitor to the router using a regular network cable. In a nutshell, this initial setup consists of assigning the camera an IP address and a port. It can be achieved automatically (for routers fitted for DHCP), or you can manually customize them. You should be utilizing this IP address and port to reach the camera from inside your central (or internal) network. The camera has internal software, called firmware, installed into it to allow the connection. This firmware is built for Internet browser support, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer , Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, etc. This web-firmware app enables you to directly call up the live video stream through your device and to retain some camera power. Depending on the software and firmware, you can display and capture the video straight from your browser and have the option to rotate, tilt and zoom in.
