    1. Digital Aerospace Research Publications Network: Developing a Working Model Project Overview T.B. Rajashekar NCSI, IISc

Description Adapt open source IR software based on needs of Aerospace research labs Set up 2 IR servers with sample content from 2 labs demonstrate capture, archiving and access to research publications Use OAI for metadata harvesting and provision of central index search service Help the 2 labs in setting up IR services Transfer technology to other interested labs

    4. Problem (justification) Aerospace labs produce significant research output Much of this is unpublished Only portion of this is catalogued and maintained in lab libraries (e.g. tech reports) Access limitations Within individual labs Across labs access to collective research output not possible Negative impact on R&D productivity

    5. Solution Each lab sets up its own IR server to manage its research publications Scientists submit their research publications online IR supports web-based online access for search and retrieval System supports cross-searching of IRs of all labs

    6. Technology Open source IR software (Free) DSpace or EPrints OAI-PMH harvesting protocol/ software (Free) Intel/ Pentium servers for IR Linux/Red Hat OS, MySQL/ PostGress DBMS, Apache/ Tomcat web server, Perl/Java (Free)

    7. Team/Resources Project team at NCSI Project teams at NAL and ADE Project test-bed at NCSI 3 Pentium servers (2 IR, 1 Harvesting) IR servers at NAL and ADE (after working model demo) Harvesting service at NAL (after harvesting service demo)
