  3. Let’s look at 3rd Grade • Standard Course of study • 1.02     Develop fluency with multi-digit addition and subtraction through 9,999 using: • Strategies for adding and subtracting numbers. • Estimation of sums and differences in appropriate situations. • Relationships between operations.

  4. Performance • Focus where…? • Do not focus on the activities, focus on the end • “What will students do during the lesson (typically towards the end) that you will evaluate or grade?” • Be brief and concise…

  5. Conditions • Circumstances • Either “independently” or “in groups of ---” • Only 1 word or a short phrase… only!

  6. Write one for practice… • 3rd Grade, 1.02     Develop fluency with multi-digit addition and subtraction through 9,999 using: • What could students do during a lesson that you could evaluate?

  7. Students will individually solve 3 word problems involving addition and subtraction. • Students will work in groups of 3 to solve 5 addition and subtraction word problems.

  8. Criteria • Add a sentence to what you just wrote… • Standard • What is the “standard” of a desired performance • What is the benchmark for all students? • Points • Use a rubric and award points for different parts • Percentage • 8 out of 10 = 80%, for example

  9. Criteria • Go back to the performance and conditions that you wrote… • Write a criteria for your performance.

  10. Examples • Students will individually solve 3 word problems involving addition and subtraction. Students will earn at least 8 out of 10 points. • Students will work in groups of 3 to solve 5 addition and subtraction word problems. Students will earn at least 9 out of 10 points.

  11. Practice • For the Train Task (Module 1), one objective it addressed was • Common Core 1st Grade- 1.OA.1 • Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems • Based on the task and the objective, write a 3 part objective if you taught a lesson using that task

  12. Practice • For the Cruise Task (Module 2), one objective it addressed was 4th Grade 1.02 • Develop fluency with multiplication and division: • Based on the task and the objective, write a 3 part objective if you taught a lesson using that task
