  2. Background • Born: May 29, 1917 • Graduated from Harvard in 1940 • Joined the Navy • PT Boat was Sunk in 1943 by Japanese Destroyer • Kennedy Led Survivors to Safety • Married Jacqueline Bouvier in 1953

Prelude to a Presidency • After the War, Kennedy became a Congressman. • He was elected to Senate in 1953. • In 1955, He wrote Profiles In Courage, which won the Pulitzer Prize for History in that year. • In 1956 he nearly gained the Vice-President nomination for the Democratic Party. • Four years later he would be nominated for President.
