    2. US Symbol The flag consists of thirteen horizontal stripes, seven red alternating with 6 white. The stripes represent the original 13 colonies, The stars represent the 50 states of the Union.

    3. Famous Person Martin Luther King was born on January 15,1929, in Altanta, Georgia.

    4. Early Life King grew up in Atlanta, he attended Booker T. Washington High School, he graduated from Morehouse with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology. King received his Doctor of Philosophy on June 5,1955.

    5. Family King married Coretta Scott, on June 18,1953. They have two sons and two daughters were born into the family.

    6. His words In 1963, During the March on Washington for Job and Freedom, he gave his famous “I have a Dream” speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial. His dream was equality and civil rights for all Americans.

    7. Awards & Recognition King was awarded at least 50 honorary degrees from colleges and universities in the U.S. elsewhere. King was also awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

    8. Assassination King was shot and killed by James Earl Ray in Memphis Tennessee, on April 4,1968.

    9. Holiday The third Monday of January is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. It is a national holiday.
