  1. Welcome to Kindergarten!

  2. What should my child bring to school each day? • Large backpack (labeled) • Proper jacket or coat for weather (labeled) • Proper shoes for play • Healthy snack and drink • Clear Important Folder/Homework

  3. What time does school begin and end? • School officially begins at 9:00 but students can be dropped off at 8:40. • School ends at 3:30 • Please send a note if your child will be picked up from school

  4. Day Care Program • 7:15-8:30 a.m $100 monthly flat fee • 3:30-5:30 p.m. $160 monthly flat fee • Staffed by certified teachers • Games, arts, crafts, homework help • Indoor and outdoor play time

  5. What is my child learning? • Curriculum is based on state standards • Guide/rubric can be found online • Scott Foresman is our reading and math program

  6. What supplies will my child need to start the year? • 2 large glue sticks • 1 box of erasable Crayola Twistables crayons • 1 pencil box • 1 box of Kleenex • 1 bottle of handsoap

  7. How will my child be assessed? • Students are assessed on the state standards on a scale from 1 (warning) to a 4 (advanced) • Report cards are given out in December, March and June • Conferences are in December • (samples of report cards/pacing guide in packet)

  8. Can my child buy lunch? • Lunch is provided each day and a calendar will be sent home with choices and prices • If you bring a lunch from home be sure that it is peanut free • Breakfast is available each morning • Free and reduced lunch is available for qualified families/a form will be sent home

  9. What are the rules/expectations for my child? • Be respectful • Be safe • Be responsible • Proper behavior is expected in the classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, and playground • (specific expectations in packet)

  10. Will my child have an enrichment? • Art • Music • Physical education (sneakers need to be worn) • Health/second step • Library/computer (books can be checked out each week) (acceptable use policy)

  11. Can my child celebrate his or her birthday at school? • Special snack can be sent in • Crown will be worn • If invitations are being sent from school, they must include all students

  12. Will my child have a Share and Tell/Mystery? • Every child has a designated day • Items should be small enough to fit in the backpack • Your child’s teacher will send home specifics

  13. Can I volunteer at school? • CORI check information • PTA • Classroom/field trips

  14. What can I work on at home to prepare my child this summer? • Read every day • Reinforce letters and sounds • Play games that involve counting and math skills • Emphasize effort • Go to the library/story hour • Set up play dates with peers • Practice address including town and state • Practice phone number • Practice independent dressing skills • Practice rhyming skills
