  2. INTRODUCTION • A domain name may be a string that identifies a realm of administrative autonomy, authority or control within the net. Web hosting and Domain names are employed in various networking contexts and for application-specific naming and addressing purposes. In general, a website name identifies a network domain or an online Protocol (IP) resource, like a private computer accustomed access the net, or a server computer. • Domain name syntax: • A domain name consists of one or more parts, technically called labels, that are conventionally concatenated, and delimited by dots, such as   example.com.

When Internet users want to look at your website, all they have to try to is type your website address or domain into their browser. • Their computer will then hook up with your server and your webpages are delivered to them through the browser.

  5. Purpose of web hosting: • Web hosts are what make websites accessible over the Internet. This means they keep all the webpages of the hosted site on their server, they take care of all the setup and technical issues, and they have a very high-speed connection to the Internet. • All PC.net webpages are hosted on a Web server, which is connected to the Internet backbone. • Most people have their websites hosted instead of hosting the sites themselves since there are very high costs involved in the setup and maintenance of a server.
