About The Division of Registrations Largest division within DORA More than 47 professions, occupations and entities in Colorado More than 325,000 licensees and registrants Funded by fees Boards/program regularly reviewed by Legislature: - regulatory need - updated Speaking notes: Our division is an umbrella organization with its own specific mission of “public protection through effective licensure and enforcement.” We are: - the largest division within DORA - we regulates more than 47 professions, occupations and entities in Colorado - we oversee more than 325,000 licensees and registrants - we are funded primarily by fees paid by licensees - all boards/program subject to periodic review by the legislature to determine: - continued need for regulation - revisions to existing rules, processes or staffing This means we are responsible for ensuring a minimum level of competency in regulated professions through the tools of licensing, inspection, examination and enforcement. The last point is the reason you are all here today. The Colorado legislature has enacted new laws entailing new or changed requirements in your profession. Continued Competency Requirements Who: Persons holding a Colorado license to practice as a Residential Wireman, Journeyman Electrician, Master Electrician or Electrical Contractor What: The expiration date has changed for licenses that expire on February 28, 2011. The new expiration date is September 30, 2011. From then on, licenses will expire September 30th every three years. As a result of this change you will not need to renew your license by the previous expiration date of February 28, 2011. You will be notified 6-8 weeks prior to the new expiration date of September 30, 2011. When: New wallet cards will be mailed to licensees during the month of November 2010. The wallet cards and all correspondence will be mailed to the most recent address DORA has on file for your license. You may verify your address and make changes at: https://www.doradls.state.co.us/ *Although the new renewal expiration date is September 30 every three years, licensees will continue to have a 2 month grace period through November 30 to complete the requirements and renew.

Assessment Your Professional Development Unit requirements are based upon your performance on the Individual Assessment which is administered by Pearson Vue at any of their locations across the nation. The Individual Assessment is divided into 4 core competency categories based on the most recent Code:  Grounding and bonding; Code changes; Wiring methods; and Theory and calculations 

    15. Assessment You may be awarded up to 24 PDUs for your performance on the Assessment. If you are found to need improvement in one of the above areas, you will need to accrue PDUs prior to your renewal in 2014. 1 area = 8 PDUs; 2 areas = 16 PDUs; 3 or more areas = 24 PDUs. Your PDUs should be accrued in the area you were needing improvement. For example, if you needed improvement in Wiring Methods, you should accrue PDUs in Wiring Methods and not another topic. There are no approved providers. You may do for-credit coursework, not-for credit coursework or industry training programs.

Assessment You must take the Individual Assessment prior to renewing your license which expires on September 30, 2011.  The Individual Assessment is available at Pearson Vue locations beginning July 1, 2011.  You may renew your license regardless of how you perform on the Assessment.  However, if you need to acquire additional PDUs, you must accrue them during the renewal cycle running from September 30, 2011 – September 30, 2014.  PDUs must be accrued prior to renewing your license in 2014.

July 1 - August 15 $30.00 August 16 - October 15 $45.00 October 16 - November 30 $60.00 Reinstatement/Reactivations $35.00 When can I take the Individual Assessment? Starting July 1 of each renewal year (2011, 2014, 2017, 2020…..) You must take the assessment prior to renewing your license. The last day of the grace period for renewals is November 30 of renewal years.

Yes How much do the classes cost if I need to acquire additional PDUs? There are no approved providers for PDUs. For this reason, you may shop for affordable rates for courses or training programs.
