  2. Birth • Born in Selma, Alabama • Full name: Mariel Margret Hamm • Born on St Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1972 • Born, then moved to Italy, because her father was in the air force from 1972 – 1976 • When Mia was 8 years old, her family adopted a new boy named Garrett.

  3. Early childhood • Family moved back to USA. • Lived in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1976

  4. Middle child life • Mia joined US soccer team in 1987 (when she was 15 years old) • She was the youngest female ever to play for the US

  5. Early adult life • Graduated from Lake Braddock Secondary High School • Won NCAA championship with College University of North Carolina (she went to College with Michael Jordan) • Mia now lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

  6. Family life • Was married to Christian Corry, a Marine Corp Pilot • Then got divorced and Married Nomar Garcia Para • Dad’s name Bill, Mom’s name Stephanie • Two sisters, now two brothers ( brother Garrett died in 1996 of bone problems)

Accomplishments • All time leading scorer in Atlantic coast, women's soccer 103 goals and 72 assists • All time leading soccer in NCAA tournament 16 goals 9 assists in 13 games • Herman Award winner best female player in collage • Won 4 NCAA championships with University of North Carolina (1989,1990,1991,1992)
