Created in 1946 Mandated by the UN General Assembly Guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Millennium Development Goals More than 10,000 people working in 162 countries Voluntary funded: annual expenditures of US$ 3 billion Advocates for and defends children’s rights worldwide by upholding the Convention on the Rights of the Child Has the global authority to influence decision-makers and a range of partners at all levels to turn the most innovative ideas into reality

    3. Mission and Mandate UNICEF believes that nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress. UNICEF was created with this purpose in mind – to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path. We believe that we can, together, advance the cause of humanity.

Public Health or HIV/AIDS Specialists, Medical doctors, Social Scientists Provide technical and programme support on HIV/AIDS and Children Experience in prevention and care to children orphaned and made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS; Youth and Adolescent Development Expertise in PMTCT programmes HIV/AIDS and Children and Adolescents:

Regardless of the position you apply to, there are general considerations: All applicants need to go through a competitive process and need to apply via the appropriate mechanism Posts are usually only advertised for two weeks Applications require an achievement oriented CV/P-11 If short-listed, candidates will be subject to a competency-based interview and subsequent recommendation by central review body All candidates subject to academic and reference checks Usually takes 2 – 3 months to be recruited (higher lever positions may take longer) E-recruitment launched.
