  1. PERIODONTAL DISEASE: CAUSES, SYMPTOMS, AND STAGES | AVANTI DENTAL GROUP SAN JOSE avantidentalgroup.com (408) 266-4100

  2. WHY DOGUMSGET SICK? When too much plaque builds up on teeth, it can lead to gum disease. Plaques are always building up in our mouths. Plaque is made up of bacteria that feed on the sugar and starches in the food and drinks we eat and drink. Plaque builds up and hardens into tartar or calculus if you don't take care of your teeth, eat well, and get your teeth cleaned and checked regularly. Gum treatment, which is also called periodontal disease, is an infection of the gums that can spread to other tissues near the teeth.

  3. HOW DOES GUM DISEASE PROGRESS? Gingivitis and periodontitis are the two stages of gum disease. Gingivitis Gingivitis is the first stage of gum disease. Symptoms are usually mild and only affect the gums and teeth. Usually, gum disease can be treated without doing too much damage to the gums if it is caught and treated at this stage. But if nothing is done about it, it can turn into periodontitis. Periodontitis Periodontitis treatment is a more serious form of gum disease in which the infection has spread under the gums and hurts the tissues and bone that hold the teeth in place. Periodontitis has three stages: early periodontitis, moderate periodontitis, and advanced periodontitis. Dentists use specific signs for each stage to figure out what is going on.

  4. SIGNS OF GUM DISEASE Most of the time, the early stages of gum disease don't hurt or make you feel bad. Because of this, it's important to keep an eye out for other signs, like changes in the way your gums or teeth look. The longer gum disease goes without being treated, the more damage it can do and the more it can cost to fix. So, if you have any of the following signs, you should see a dentist as soon as possible. WHAT DOES GUM DISEASE LOOK LIKE? Healthy gums are light pink, firm, and fit close to the teeth. Gums that are infected can be: Swollen or puffy Dull red (more common with gingivitis) Bright red or violet-colored (more common with periodontitis)
