The most common and influential these days is the oil painting technique. The oil paint is a mixture of three things which are: Pigment, binder and thinner. In this the Pigment, as the name suggests is the colour, binder is to hold the colour on the canvas and thinner is to maintain the consistency of the pigment, so that it can be applied with a brush. The most common oil used in Oil paintings is linseed oil, it dries by oxidation. The other oils used in Oil paintings are safflower, poppy seed oil or walnut oil.
