  1. Factors to Consider Before Hiring Electrical Contractors

  2. An electrician has to have special licensing in order to perform any legal work in or on your property. Below is a collection of questions you'll want to ask before hiring any electrical contractors.

  3. What Are Your Qualifications? Any skilled tradesman must have proper licensing. More importantly he or she must also be technically proficient in the field. All electrical contractors share a common knowledge of the National Electrical Code all throughout Australia. Don't be afraid to ask questions. How much experience has he or she acquired through the years? Does the electrician know how to repair an electronic switchboard?

  4. Are You Licensed? Another thing you want to ask is whether or not the electrician is licensed. All electricians must be licensed properly in the jurisdiction of where the project they are working on is located. He or she must comply with the NEC (National Electric Code) and have at least four years relevant work experience.

  5. What is the Electrician's Reputation Like? Obviously anyone could lie about their reputation so you'll have to do some research. Ask other people - neighbors, friends, or even former employers - who may know of the contractor and the quality of work he or she produces. Is the electrician knowledgeable? Does he or she perform all of his or her job functions in a timely and professional manner? Do the price quotes seem reasonable to you? You might also want to ask what the electrician's people skills are like. Does he or she offer outstanding customer service? All of these factors contribute to an overall positive experience.

  6. Independent Contractor Vs. Full Service Electrical Company Certainly there are many factors when deciding on an independent contractor however you can avoid much of the headache if you choose to hire an electrician from a full service electrical company. While an independent contractor may not have work experience repairing an electronic switchboard a full service electrical company will sure have one that does.

  7. Ask for a Quote No matter whether or not you hire an independent contractor or choose to go with a full service electrical company, you always have the option to ask for a quote. Most any business will offer a free estimation of the overall project cost. That way if you decide to change your mind you won't be stuck with an added expenditure from an independent contractor or company that you would rather not do business with.
