In the current time of the pandemic where employees are forced to work from home, the network administrator has to ensure that the databases and other systems are running smoothly. The duties of the digital administration support depend on the size of the organization. It mainly includes the following:
1) Configure the systems and hardware like routers, etc. 2) Upgrade and maintain the computer networks 3) Troubleshoot and solve any issues with the network 4) Assist the network designers, when required 5) The software of the company needs to be updated regularly 6) Security systems need to be upgraded and designed Skills required by a network administrative support:
Technical Skills: A network administrator deals with the hardware and software network of a company. He should posses the technical skills required for the job. Nobody will take the network administrator seriously if he does not have the technical know-how to carry out the above mentioned duties. The soft skills a network administrator requires other than technical skills are:
Analytical thinking: A network administration support should be adept at solving problems. He should be able to find creative solutions to the different problems. A network administrator should be able to analyze the situation and provide the company’s management with a solution. Analytical thinking is the collection of all the facts, examining them and then ensuring that the facts follow a logical sequence. The network administrator should have good reasoning skills. The network administrator should be able to keep his emotions aside while taking a decision.
Management of time: Time management is critical in the case of a network administrator. He should be able to think on his feet. In case of a network related security breach, the network administrator has to ensure that the leak is contained in the minimum amount of time. The network administrator has the responsibility to carry out many projects at the same time. He has to deal with various people and solve all the networking problems of an organization. Organization is the key to good time management. The network administrator should be able to prioritize and organize his calendar to ensure all the jobs are done.
Communication Skills: A network administrator should be well versed with the jargons of the job. He should also possess communication skills because he has to deal with different kinds of people. He interacts with the engineers and the end users. He should be able to explain things to a layman also. The network administrator acts as a bridge between the employees and the network problems of a company.
The zeal to learn and grow: With the ever changing and evolving technology, it is vital that the network administrative support is open to learning new things. The network administrators have to keep track of every development and improvement in technology. The network administrator should be able catch up with the changes quickly.
The administrative paperwork involved in the job of a network administrator is humongous. If the administrator is stuck doing the paperwork, he will have no time left to actually solve the network problems of the company.
