The total volume on an export basis shows that India exported 13 million tonnes of pulses worth Rs 46,600 crore in 2018-19 which was 11% higher than 9 million tonnes worth Rs 41,900 crore exported in 2017-18 Cereals export from India was $1.36 billion in 2017-18. The market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5% to reach $2.26 billion by 2022. Pulses Imports In India And Countries India is one of the largest producers and pulses exporters in the world. It is also one of the leading importers of pulses. India imports pulses from many countries around the world such as Vietnam, Egypt, Argentina, Uzbekistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, etc. India has been importing pulses for the last decades. India imports pulses mainly to meet its domestic demand as well as to meet its export requirement. India’s total consumption of pulses was about 8 million tons from 2018-19. This comprises about 7% of total consumption in India which was about 114 million tons during this period. The consumption per capita during this period was 0.7 kg per person which was lower than the global average (1 kg). The major source countries for Indian pulses imports are Vietnam (31%), Egypt (24%), Argentina (18%), Uzbekistan (17%), Iran (15%), and Kazakhstan (13%).
