  1. Odessa Grain Traders To Continue With Grain Exports Despite Russian Drone Attacks With the detoriating impact of Covid-19, people had high hopes from the year 2022. After two years of disruptions, people expected the year to aid recovery in every way. However, the year posed challenges and difficulties that no one ever thought of. With the start of the year, started the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the war between the two biggest grain producers and exporters led to disruptions in the supply chain. The intensity was such that many nations were pushed to the brink of a severe food crisis and the global grain shortage drove the United Nations along with Turkey to broker a deal between the two for exports of grain to avert the food crisis. After much hard work and discussions, finally a deal between Russia and Ukraine, famously known as Black Sea Grain Initiative (BSGI) was signed and with Russia and Ukraine promising to cooperate with respect to inspection and safe passage of vessels, the world heaved a sigh of relief.

  2. However, to everyone’s surprise, even after the finalization of the deal, the grain exports from the three ports of Ukraine, namely Odessa, Chornomorsk, and Pivdennyi continue amid heightened tensions with Russia. Every now and then, reports of drone and missile attacks emerge over vessels carrying grains through the Black Sea region, which raise the tension between the two countries and ring the alarm bells for countries eagerly waiting for grains for their domestic needs. The same has been the case this time as well. Recently, Russia has been damaging Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and in the aftermath of the latest series of attacks, by Russian drone on region’s energy system, Ukraine’s port of Odessa has stopped operating. However, despite this, Odessa grain exporters show no signs of suspension of Grain Exports. Russian Attacks On Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure Continue After destroying buildings and captivating civilians for months, Russia has devised a new strategy to gain foot in the war. In its latest attack strategy, Russia has been constantly targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure through missiles and drones to weaken the resolve that Ukrainians are holding on to since 9 months of the war. The Russian attacks on energy infrastructure since October are aimed at raising troubles for the civilians and Ukraine’s military in the middle of a cold winter that is hindering Russian invasion plans. However, along with this, Russian attacks on power infrastructure is also threating the exports of grains from the three Ukrainian ports. After the recent drone attack on Saturday, Ukraine’s port of Odessa stopped its operations, raising fears in the minds of people. However, comments from

  3. Ukraine’s president on the subject matter calmed anxious people around the globe. In a statement, Volodymyr Zelenskyy admitted that there are problems; but despite this Odessa traders have no plans to suspend grain exports. He added that, they are mulling over alternative energy sources to continue with the exports of grain amid lack of operations from the port of Odessa. The Bottom Line The Russia-Ukraine war has taken a toll on people’s mind since the start of the year 2022. However, recent attacks by Russia on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure have raised the bar altogether. Since October, Russia has been constantly targeting Ukraine’s energy systems through missiles and drones and such attacks still continue. Recently, it again targeted the region’s energy system after which the port of Odessa stopped its operations.
