How To Book & Compare Cheap American Airlines Flights Cheap American Airlines Booking Advantage As a member of the AAdvantage program, you can earn miles when you fly on American, oneworld, and other participating airlines. Cheap American Airlines Booking In addition, you can also earn miles with over 1,000 participating companies, which include car rental agencies, hotels, restaurants, and credit cards. Once you've earned enough miles, you can use them for a wide range of rewards. The most common use is for free flights, but miles can also be used for upgrades to a higher cabin class, car rentals, hotel stays, or for other retail products and gift cards. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the AAdvantage program also had a tier system where you could earn elite status. The more you flew, the higher your status could be, from Gold to Platinum, Platinum Pro, and Executive Platinum. Each status tier offered additional benefits like priority boarding, free checked bags, and mileage bonuses. American Airlines Founded in 1926 as American Airways, the company was renamed American Airlines in 1934. It operates out of ten hubs across the United States, with Dallas/Fort Worth being its largest in terms of total passengers and number of departures. American Airlines is a founding member of the Oneworld airline alliance, along with several other major airlines from around the world. This allows them to coordinate on routes and schedules, share airport facilities, and provide other benefits to passengers. In 2011, American Airlines filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, but it managed to successfully restructure and emerge from bankruptcy in 2013. That same year, it announced a merger with US Airways, which was completed in 2015, creating one of the world's largest airlines. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, American Airlines operates a fleet primarily consisting of Boeing and Airbus aircraft, with regional services operated by independent and subsidiary carriers under the brand name American Eagle.
