  2. About the LGBT Community approximately 6.7 percent of the U.S. grown-up populace identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT), agreeing Witeck Communications. In honor of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month (June), Caleb Laieski Best Practices presents five additional eye-opening facts about the LGBT community.

More Women Than Men Identify as LGBT The researchers found that men were more likely than ladies to report being "100 percent hetero" or "100 percent gay person" continually throughout their lives. Women, On the other hand, were three times more likely than men to report a shift in their sexual orientation over time, and more likely to self-identify as bisexual.

  4. More People Support Marriage Equality Than Assumed When asked about the public’s opinion about marriage equality, 63 percent of those overviewed trust people in general is against it. As indicated by Gallup, 53 percent of Americans support marriage equality.. This is up 96 percent from 1996, when only 27 percent were in support.

  5. People of Color More Likely to Identify as LGBT Blacks (4.6 percent), Asians (4.3 percent), and Latinos (4 percent) are more probable than Whites (3.2 percent) to recognize as LGBT. The percentage of LGBT people of color is disproportionately higher than the percent of non-LBGT people of color. Generally speaking, 33 percent of the individuals who recognize as LGBT are people of color, compared with 27 percent of the non-LGBT population.

  6. Where the Greatest Percentage of LGBT Adults Live At 10 percent, Washington, D.C. has the greatest percentage of adults who identify as LGBT. Among the states, Hawaii has the greatest percentage of LGBT adults (5.1 percent) and North Dakota has the lowest (1.7 percent). All states are within two percentage points of the national average (3.5 percent).

The first Pride parade was co-organized by a bisexual woman A month after the riots, bisexual activist Brenda Howard organized a liberation day march on Christopher Street to recognize the occasion. After a year, Howard was credited with co-organizing he first Pride march, and with thinking of making a week-long Pride celebration. This was the structure that formed the Pride month we have today. Howard was a life-long activist who has been cited for her work on behalf of feminist, anti-war and most notably the bisexual causes.
