  3. Indian Association forthe Cultivation of Science Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science ( IACS) is proudly the oldest institute in India to have pursued the field of Basic Sciences. The institute has over the period own numerous accolades and awards. Some of the Notable award holders are CV Raman ( Nobel), Four TWAS Prize holders. The institute is near Jadavpur University, moreover, the Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute and Indian Institute of Chemical Biology are near it. Established 144 years ago the institute lately received the status of Deemed University in2018. Furthermore, the institute is a premier school for fundamental basic sciences and researches. Primarily, however, the most focused fields are Physics chemistry and chemical biology. The houses the brightest of minds on its campus thus it also successfully publishes around 500 articles, journals, and research papers everyyear.

  5. HISTORY Dr. Mahendra Lal Sarcar the second MD Graduate from Calcutta Medical College. In July 1876 founded the Indian Association Of Cultivation Science (IACS). In its initial days, IACS operated at Bowbazar a locality in Kolkata. IACS during its formative period saw the likes of Father Lafont, Jagadish Chandra Bose, Asutosh Mukherjee, Chunilal Bose, and Pramathanath Bose. Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar and Kesab Chandra Sen as its member. Moreover, the institute is where C.V Raman made his prized discovery in Physics which led him to win the Nobel in1930. Furthermore, the institute’s rich history received a boost when CV Raman started his school of research which witnessed talents from all parts of India joining the institute. Library The library started in 1876 is among the rare numbers of the library to hold such resources. Moreover, it is also the oldest library of its kind in India. The absolute superiority of the library’s materials is easily visible in the fact that it has over 3000 external users and around 350 internal users. The library houses 81000+ resources and materials, that includes print books, journals, bound periodicals, etc. Moreover, the library occupies a 15000 sq. ft. area and features temperature control through air conditioning. Furthermore, the library also has digital resources available on itsportal.

  8. Hostel The hostel accommodation is limited at the campus thus students are given accommodation on need-based criteria. Also, the hostlers can have parents or relatives visiting their stay at the guesthouse. SeminarHalls The institute has a number of seminar halls. Halls are also available for rent. Furthermore, the halls are namely MLS Hall, CV Raman Hall, and SN BoseHall. Instruments The department of CSS (Central Scientific Services) has a number of instruments that facilitate regular research at the institute. The instruments are however not only available to students and fellows but also to outside industries as well. Some of the instruments available are AFM (CP-II), AFM, BET, CT, real-time PCR, Deep Freezer (-80 degrees),TableTop Centrifuge System, and Dielectric Measure System among otherinstruments.

Courses The institute has six schools namely the School of Biological Sciences, School of Materials Sciences, School of Chemical Sciences, School of Physical sciences, School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, and the School of applied Interdesclipanary Sciences. Under these schools, courses are offered with varied specializations. However, the number of courses may be limited but the specialties are available in the fields of study. Courses available at the institute are Integrated M.Sc. and Ph.D., Integrated B.Sc and M.Sc, and Ph.D. courses. The integrated UG and PG course are for five years and the Integrated PG and Doctoral course is of 7 years. Moreover, the fees for the course are quite low. Placements The institute does have a placement cell. Students are even offered summer internships. The internship stipend is quite low as some reports from online forums suggest. However, 92% of students are placed in related organizations, and their salary ranges from 10-14 lacs onaverage.
