  5. HISTORY Named after the first Prime Minister of India, the University was established in the year 1969. On its establishment and passing of the bill in parliament, discussions were made to make the University unique, thus seeding a core idea in its pillars to help the weaker section of the Society. Ideas of developing new faculties were made viable. Moreover, the University merged with the School of International Studies in1970. Games played in the University are Athletics, Badminton, Cricket, Chess, Football, Mountaineering and Trekking, Volleyball, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Tennis, Weight-Power Lifting, Bench Press, Body Building, and Yoga.
