  3. NATIONAL INSTITUTE OFTECHNOLOGY, CALICUT Like all National Institute of Technology, NIT C (National Institute of Technology Calicut) is a public technical university of national importance. It is formally recognized by the parliamentary act of NIT 2002; therefore, it is also a deemed university by virtue of theact. NIT C, from time to time, has evolved as per the industry requirements, thereby successfully producing students who have gained fame in their walks of life. Notable alumnus includes Devdas D Pillai and Suraj Pai, among many. The institute is also a proud owner of a supercomputer that lies on itscampus. Presently there are 31 National institutes of technology in the nation with plans for new ones coming up soon. Therefore, NIT C is a part of these 31 institutes. Thus most of the syllabus and curriculum are similar and approved by AICTE. Moreover, the institute keeps a keen focus on student development. Moreover, students’ activities and welfare drives are available at theinstitute.

  5. HISTORY NIT Calicut was established in the year 1961. In its initial years, similar to most old NIT’s, NIT Calicut was also set up as a Regional Engineering College (REC), and it continued its functions at the premises of Government Polytechnic in Calicut. The institute was transformed into NIT in 2002, along with other RECs throughout the country. NIT Calicut was earlier affiliated with the University of Kerala for three years. It was only after the formation of Calicut University that NIT fell under Calicut University’s jurisdiction and became affiliated with it. In 1963 NIT Calicut also moved its premises to its permanent campus. Moreover, after few years of it, NIT recognition NIT Calicut improved its courses and intake capacity drastically from 200 students in its initial years to 1000+ students in 2011. Furthermore, the institute is now an institute of National importance. Among the many early achievements of NIT, one particular stand out as the college was the first in all of Kerala to develop its own Website. It did so in1996.

The institute is sought after, that securing admission is not easy at all. Students need to give their all to clear the cut-off.NIT Calicut has consistently ranked among the top NIT’s in India and fairly well among top engineering colleges, including IITs. To speak the least of its capability, NIT ranks 3rd in architecture amongall engineering colleges beating many IIT’s, and it ranked 23rd as an overall engineering collegeaccording to NIRFranking.

  7. INFRASTRUCTURE NIT is now more almost six decades old. A college thatold is sure to have its own share of boast in the field of infrastructure offered. The college, from its initial days,has developed and expanded rigorously various aspects of its infrastructure from student comforts to student and staff welfare ecosystems. Furthermore, some of its infrastructures are asfollows. Hostel &Mess Hostel facilities on the campus are of a good standard. Students in each hostel get access to a house canteenand mess. Furthermore, all hostels are well connected with Wi- Fi. All hostels come with dedicated recreational space, which includes the likes of indoor gaming spaces, TV rooms,s and reading spaces. NIT Calicut also has kept the food choices in mind and has separated hostels mess for non-veg and veg students. A sum total of 15 hostels are available, of which two are mega hostels, and among all these hostels, 11 are for boys and four forgirls.

  8. Central Library and computercenter The central library at NIT Calicut has collected books over the years now, and its collection stands around one lac book. Additionally, the college also has e-books, journals, papers, desertions, and other e-resources available in its e-library. Moreover, the college has subscriptions to print journals and e- sodh Sindhu. The computer center functions as the institute’s internet server; it has many numbers of dedicated CPUs facilitating the computing needs of the folks oncampus. Sports Ample spaces for sports are provided on the campus. Students get sports grounds for football, cricket, and hockey. Courts for basketball, badminton, volleyball, and tennis are available as well. Students also get indoor spaces for games like chess andcarom. Additionally, students also get a gym, swimming pool, and roller skating spaces. Furthermore, the college organizes sports tournaments and participates in intercollege sports aswell. Incubators and ResearchLabs The incubation center at NIT Calicut has built many entrepreneurs and does so well today as well. Students present their ideas and business plan; after a successful pitch, students are selected for the incubator program, which facilitates and shapes the students into entrepreneurs. Many departmental labs are also available at the institute. Different labs are also available at the instate, starting from language learning labs to core engineeringlabs. Dedicated School for MBA A school for management students is also available in the college. The MBA students also get a separate hostel and access to all available amenities. The school of management studies witnessed decent placements. Eligible students for any field of study can enroll in the two-year program. Moreover, after MBA, students can also opt-in for Ph.D. in managementstudies.

  9. Courses The institute provides as many as 41 courses inclusive of both UG and PG levels. Sum total of 11 departments, eight centers, and three disciplines of studies work in sync to facilitate harmonious learning. Moreover, the courses are as per AICTE Sum total of 11 departments offer courses across three major disciplines of study, namely applied sciences, engineering, and technology. Popular courses in UG levels are B.Arch and B.tech in CS, MBA, and M.Tech in Computer. Fees can rangebetween 5.5 lacs to 7 lacs for UG and from 90K to 2lacs forPG. Placements The dedicated placement cells make sure that students get into top organizations. Companies like Astra Zeneca, One plus, Capgemini participated in campus placements in 2020, among many others. The highest package offered for UG was 49.7 Lac PA. While the department of Informational Technology witnessed 100% placements, the overall placements were at80%.

Is there ragging in NITCalicut? NIT follows strict rules regarding ragging. The college has an anti-ragging policy throughout its campus and outside for its students. Students may face jail time if found guilty ofragging. What is the ranking of nitCalicut?
