  3. National Institute of Technology, NIT Srinagar Established in 1960, the National Institute of Technology Srinagar, Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir, and is one of India's 32 NIT. NIT Srinagar is the only technical institute of national significance in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as one of India's most prestigious technical institutes. Besides, it was a Regional Institute of Technology, but later in July 2003, it got upgraded to NIT, which is under the supervision of MHRD, Indian Govt. Since its establishment, the institute has focused on technological advances and study to provide high- quality education. The university has twelve academic departments that offer programs in Engineering, Applied Sciences, Humanities, and SocialSciences. The college provides various UG, PG, and doctoral programs, in several specializations, for example, architecture, physics, computer applications,etc. The National Institute of Technology has 12 departments, including engineering, humanities, and science. With 184 faculty members, 2472 learners, and staff members, the university is fully self-sufficient on the western bank of DalLake. Lake, on the one hand, as well as picturesque, rural hills on the other, it's been on the rise since 1960. It also brings natural elegance to the campus with the city's magnificence. The institute is 13 km from the train station and also 23 km from Sheikh Ul-Alam International Airport, Srinagar.   5. HISTORY NIT Srinagar was established in 1960 as theRegional Engineering College, Srinagar. It was one of the first eight Regional Engineering Collegesestablished by Government of India during the first Five YearPlan. The institute shifted to its present campus in 1965.The Regional Engineering College, Srinagar was upgraded to become the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar in July, 2003.In the same year, the institution was granted Deemed Universitystatus with the approval of the University Grants Commission, All India Council of Technical Education and the Government of India. On 15 August 2007 itbecame an Institute of National Importance under theNIT Billpassed by the parliament ofIndia
