3. ABOUTUNIVERSITY The Panjab University is one of the best state universities situated in Chandigarh city in Punjab state of India. Similarly, It got established in the year 1882. 5. HISTORY Panjab University got established in 1882 and initiated in Lahore. However, the university is one of the oldest universities in India also known as the University of Punjab. The PU moved to the Chandigarh state in 1958-1960. In addition, until the settlement of Punjab in the year, 1966, the university got its regional centers at Shimla, Rohtak, and Jalandhar. However, the colleges which are affiliated with the PU were situated in the Punjab, HP, and Haryana. Therefore, after the re-organization of the Punjab state, PU became an Inter-State Body Corporate serving to the states of HP, Haryana, Punjab, and other Union territories of Chandigarh like Panjab University Patiala. It came into existence by an Act of the then Central Legislative Assembly of British India. Slowly, Himachal and Haryana Colleges got affiliated with the universities of respective states. However, the PU got the affiliated college in the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
