3. ABOUTUNIVERSITY Pt Ravishankar Shukla University sits in the ‘Rice Bowl of India’ – Chhattisgarh. Established in 1964, PRSU is an autonomous not-for-profit state-owned higher education institution. As a matter of fact, National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) gave PRSU an overall highest grade ‘A’. Moreover, Ravishankar University -  Raipur is one of the largest and oldest institutions of higher education in the state. Further, PRSU aims to cater to all the needs of poor youth of the state, and among the neighbourhood border states. 5. HISTORY As the name suggests, PRSU was named before the first Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. As a matter of fact, he was a leader of the Indian National Congress (INC), and an activist of the Indian independence movement. Moreover, the state government of Madhya Pradesh launched PRSU as a teaching-cum-affiliating university on 1st May 1964. But, the real administrative functioning started a month after its launch, 1st June 1964. Initially, PRSU was launched with 46 affiliated colleges, and 5 university teaching departments (UTDs). Likewise, only 34,000 students enrolled at the University. On 2nd July 1965, the former Prime Minister – Indira Gandhi inaugurated the postgraduate department. To clarify, the PG department had only 5 subjects of specialisation.

Moreover, the first category is ‘remedial coaching’. In other words, the coaching centre improves the academic skills and linguistic proficiency of students. Hostel Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University has nine hostels for different purposes. Moreover, there is a separate hostel for girls and boys. 9. Sundarlal Sharma Library The library, as a matter of fact, is named after Pandit Sundarlal Sharma. Moreover, he was a legendary freedom fighter and social reformer. Health Centre The health centre at Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University has well-equipped Pathology labs. Further, the students, faculty, and even non-teaching staff can avail of the medical treatment free of cost through an outpatient department. Moreover, a full-time Medical Officer and a part-time lady-doctor run the centre. Specialised Cells PRSU has several specialised cells, namely, placement cell, grievance cell, and cell against harassment. In other words, all these cells perform diverse functions.
