The Punjab Engineering College became a Deemed University in 2003 by the MHRD andrechristened as PEC University of Technology in the year2009.

5. HISTORY PEC University is among the pioneer engineering colleges of Punjab. The PEC was established in the year 1921. Initially, this institution was named PEC University of Technology, further, its name was changed to East Punjab Engineering College. Later on, it was renamed, Maclean Engineering College. However, after achieving the Deemed University status (2003) this institution was again renamed as PECUniversity. The campus of the Punjab Engineering College is spread over a vast area of 146 acres of land. In the beginning, this institution had only 3 departments such as the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Civil engineering, and Electrical Engineering. However, with passing time it expands its curriculum and now it has 32 courses under differentstreams. Additionally, the campus of Punjab Engineering College is only 9km away from the Chandigarh Railway station and only 5km away from the main busstand.
