  2. A D D I N G J A P A N E S E M A P L E S T O G A R D E N S Adding Japanese Maples to gardens provides beauty, elegance and a unique flair. They are slow-growing trees that come in many varieties, so there is something to fit every garden space. These trees thrive in acidic soils with good drainage, but are low maintenance and require minimal upkeep once established. Planting in a sunny spot will provide more vibrant coloring throughout the changing seasons of fall, winter and spring.

  5. Kawaii Japanese Maple The foliage of this low, slow-growing Kawaii Full Moon maple looks fantastic throughout the season. Bright pink-red spring leaves of this Kawaii Japanese Maple become orange-red with green highlights in early summer and bright red and orange in fall. Chartreuse leaf bases and light petioles add to the appeal. In Japanese, the name ‘Kawaii’ means “cute,” not to be confused with the Hawaiin island Kauai. Dissectum. www.coniferkingdom.com

  6. Orangeola Japanese Maple is not quite as red as many other laceleafs weeping Japanese maples, but the foliage is orange-red when it first emerges in spring. By mid-summer, the color is a mix of burgundy and muted green. Acer palmatum Orangeola’s dramatically cascading habit and long-term seasonal interest make it one of our favorites. 7. S E I R Y U J A P A N E S E M A P L E ‘Seiryu’ Japanese Maple is a unique Lace-leaf Japanese maple that has an upright habit, not cascading form, with annual growth of 12-18”. Its lacy leaves emerge green with red highlights, then light green by summer. On exposed leaves of Seiryu Japanese Maple, red margins appear. Striking fall colors include tones of red, orange, and yellow. The name of this highly regarded tree means “blue-green dragon.” Dissectum.

  8. Tiny leaves on this petite Sharp’s Pygmy Japanese maple are a nice light-green color in spring. The fall color is a host of oranges and reds. One of the few truly dwarf maples. This Acer palmatum ‘Sharp’s Pygmy’ is excellent for bonsai! Sharp's pygmy Japanese Maple
