Role Of Prebiotics In Promoting Healthy Bacteria

Probiotics are non-digestible food components that selectively stimulate the growth and/or activity of beneficial bacteria, thus improving host health. However, the definition was refined to u201ca selectively fermented ingredient that allows specific changes, both in composition and/or activity in the gastrointestinal (GI) microflora that confers benefits upon host well-being and healthu201d. 1. ROLE OF PREBIOTICS IN PROMOTING HEALTHY BACTERIA Gut microflora role in providing immunity  PREBIOTICS AND THEIR BIFIDOGENIC EFFECT IN INFANT FEED. PREBIOTICS Prebiotics are non-digestible food components that selectively stimulate the growth and/or activity of beneficial bacteria, thus improving host health. PREBIOTICS CHARACTERISTICS The ability to resist breakdown due to acidic GI environment and gastric enzymes, absorption by the upper GI tract3! and also fermented by the microflora present in the intestine. COLON MICROFLORA The colon microflora is a metabolically active and complex ecosystem with a major role in protection against exogenous and pportunistic bacteria, immunity, and overall well-being of the host PREBIOTICS ROLE IN GUT HEALTH Probiotics have the potential to prevent and cure intestinal dysfunctions, inflammatory bowel disease, gastro-intestinal infections, and colon cancer. BIFIDOGENIC EFFECT OF PREBIOTIC Bifidobacteria and other intestinal bacteria are particularly adapted to the host environment; they are able to metabolize monosaccharides present in oligosaccharides with glycohydrolases.
