  1. How the process of doctors revalidation works?

  2. What is a revalidation process? • Revalidation is a mandatory requirement for every practicing and registered doctor. • It is a process through which licensed doctors makes positive affirmation to General Medical Council they are fit to practice and possess up-to-date knowledge. • The doctors revalidation is applicable to all the practicing and licensed doctors within UK who work with NHS as well as in private sector. • It also covers all the branches of medical practice.

  3. How it works? • Doctors revalidation process is based on the regular appraisals. • Doctors have link to a healthcare organization known as ‘designated body’ who will be responsible for providing them with regular appraisals. • Regular appraisals are essential requirements for doctors revalidation which are done according to the core guidance provided in Good Medical Practice Framework.

  4. How it works? • The responsible officer is appointed by GMC at the designated body who has the responsibility of managing, organizing and monitoring appraisal activities. • He is also responsible for making recommendations to GMC for doctors revalidation based on the appraisal reports. • The appraisal is conducted by the appraiser with the doctor.

  5. How it works? • Doctors are required to maintain their portfolio of supporting information. • That information is taken from the complete scope of their medical practice. • Some of the information is collected by the doctors themselves while remaining information comes from the clinical governance system of the designated body that is supporting doctors revalidation.

  6. How it works? • Six type of supporting information is required to be collected that includes the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as well as the feedback from colleagues and patients. • The Responsible Officer make recommendations to GMC for doctors revalidation normally after every 5 years. • Usually, the Responsible Officer is the medical director of the designated body. • GMC conduct series of checks to make sure that there are no concerns about doctors. • If no concerns are found, the doctors will be revalidated.
