Doug Smith Worthington City Council Home About Accomplishments Blog Meet Doug Quick Facts Born and raised on a farm near Bellevue, Ohio (20 miles from Sandusky) Graduated from Capital University with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Political Science and Public Relations   Master's in Business Administration from Ashland University Wife Rebecca, daughter Felicity, son Xavier, son Sebastian   Member of St. Patrick Church Member of the Worthington Chamber of Commerce Leadership PRESENT PAST Worthington City Council Member, At-Large since 2011   Worthington Community Improvement Corporation (CIC), Board Vice President since 2012   Worthington Bike/Pedestrian Advisory Committee Member   Worthington Street Improvement Advisory Committee Member Circle K International, International Trustee Doug was elected by his peers to serve on the Board of Trustees for this international collegiate service organization. His responsibilities included traveling to seven states and Western Canada to counsel organization leaders and inspire college students to perform service projects in their communities. He also was charged with developing a strategic marketing plan to obtain more members and to partner with universities and national organizations. He assisted with developing annual budgets, and created by-laws and legislation to expand organizational efforts to additional countries.   Ohio District Circle K international, Lt. Governor Doug was elected by his peers to serve as the Lt. Governor for the Ohio District. He was mainly responsible for Central Ohio growth, and allocating district funds for service projects and events across Ohio. Doug achieved short term and long term sustainability goals, assisting with reaching the largest number of members in Ohio District’s history. He grew the membership in Central Ohio by more than 400 percent in one year.   Capital University Student Senate, Floor Leader Doug organized a grassroots effort and allocated funds to update the university’s handicapped accessibility (compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act). He developed an integrated Study Abroad program and cultural events for students and the community to see what life is like in the home countries of our foreign students. He helped pass a multi-million dollar building plan for a new housing facility, a new dining room, and a new walkway through campus. Plus, he was instrumental in working with university administration to develop a long term building plan for the campus area. Within the Student Senate, he operated and allocated university funds through an annual budget. Doug served on the Student Senate for three years Trained in LEAN Six Sigma practices for government   Columbus Catholic Men's Ministry, Board Member The men's ministry provides programs and events to help men strengthen their faith, family, and professional life.   The New Standard Marketing, Owner The New Standard is a full-service marketing firm   Little Margaret's Charity at St. Patrick Church, Board Member Little Margaret’s Charity is a non-profit organization that distributes funds to organizations in Columbus area whose purpose it is to help the needy. Doug is an active Board Members who helps with hands-on charity.   St. Joseph the Worker Business Network, Founder St. Joseph the Worker Business Network is a non-profit membership organization for central Ohio Catholic business people. The network is comprised of professionals who want to incorporate their faith into the workplace while networking with other Catholics to foster personal and business relationships.
