  2. Yoga is a 5,000 year old spiritual and ascetic discipline. It includes practice of different body postures along with breath control which are beneficial for health. The body postures are known as ‘asanas’. If practised in the right way yoga has a myriad of benefits that help the body to stay fit both physically and internally. Here are some benefits of yoga. • One of the constituents of yoga is meditation which is the best way to get rid of stress. Stress can be quite harmful and there are several diseases that are connected with stress. Some yoga positions such as the ‘Balasana’, ‘Vajrasana’ and ‘Garudasana’ require you to focus on a specific point. Concentration and focus is a great way to manage stress. • Yoga is also a great way to manage weight. This lets you lose weight steadily and also helps in keeping it off. It is a natural way of losing weight and it doesn’t harm your body. The ‘Surya Namaskar’ is the best asana for weight loss. It tones up the internal body organs thus helping in digestion and bowel movements. It also stimulates weight loss. Other yoga positions are ‘Marjariasana’, ‘Bhujangasana’, ‘Dhanurasana’, ‘Konasana’ etc. • By the time we are back from office or have completed our daily chores we feel completely drained of energy. The yoga practitioners are however always energetic. Just 15 minutes of practising yoga can help you keep energised. The different poses help you learn the correct ways of sitting, standing, sleeping and walking. When they are done in the right way your body doesn’t experience pain. Yoga makes you strong internally.

It is a balancing pose and it helps in stabilizing your body while also focusing your mind. This pose helps to increase concentration, reduces flat feet, prevents all types of joint and ankle problems. • UtthitaTrikonasana • This is known as the extended triangle pose. This one is a great stress buster. It helps in toning the ankles and knees and improves the metabolism of the body. It is great for infertility, anxiety and sciatica. • Marjaiasana • It is referred to as the Cat and Cow pose. Besides helping in improving your posture the Marjaiasana stimulates the internal organs such as the adrenal glands and kidney. It also helps in relieving stress and strengthens the spine and neck.

It helps in losing weight, people suffering from lack of sleep should practice this asana, keeps levels of blood sugar in check, also helps to keep the heart healthy and inhalation and exhalation at different levels helps in detoxifying the body. • AdhoMukhaShvanasana • Known as the downward facing dog pose, it helps the lymph and blood of our body to flow in opposite directions. It boosts self-confidence and controls depression. This pose also helps in toning arms and legs, straightens the spine and relieves pain from lower and middle back. • There are many other asanas in yoga that help you in having a healthy body. However, ensure that you consult a good yoga instructor who will advise you on how to execute the poses perfectly.
