  1. What does Drupal 8 offer? Drupal 8 is completely rebuild from the ground up and has a lot of cool features: Responsive in its DNA , also backend. Manage your site’s content...from your phone. Better content management experience, including inplace editing RESTful web services Object oriented code Native schema.org support 100% multilingual Improved content editing/authoring experience Mobile-first, responsive, HTML5 output Improved performance And lot's more Drupal 8 Migration Path Drupal 8 core provides a Migration path directly from Drupal 6 as an experimental feature, so sites can update directly to Drupal 8 using either a user interface or with Drush. See Executing a Drupal 6/7 to Drupal 8 upgrade for more details. The Migrate module is designed to create all content types and fields as part of the migration; so you won’t have to do it manually. Also, since this upgrade will overwrite configuration on the Drupal 8 site, be sure you have not made any configurations unless the entire upgrade is finished. Assuming that you are on Drupal 6 currently, it would make tremendous business sense to move directly to Drupal 8 that has the latest technology under its belt. Drupal 6 to Drupal 8 About 20% of total Drupal sites is Drupal 6. It can be divided by two type of website. Brochure Site Complex Site Brochure Site Migration: In this website you have a couple dozens of pages with some static information and maybe a blog about your organization, company or personal activities. So there are no complex functions like an online community, webshop or social intranet/extranet.

  2. Drupal 8 will probably be a good candidate, as it has a lot of features out of the box and chances are you can don't need extra modules. So upgrade to Drupal 8 asap will probably the best step. Complex Site Migration: This type of website would be an online community, a webshop or a Drupal social intranet. There are contrib modules installed and additional custom modules. In this case you probably need extra modules in Drupal 8 to migrate your system. When those modules are not yet migrated then you can wait for them. But it's kind of uncertain when they will be migrated and stable. If your needed functions are also not available in Drupal 8 modules, then you have to build it custom. In Drupal 8, a migration based system is introduced, which allows to migrate content and configuration between two independent sites. The system is largely inspired by the work of the Drupal 7 Migrate and Drupal-to-Drupal Data Migration modules. It is a much more robust and extensible system than in previous major versions of Drupal core. Do you have any queries on Drupal 8?
