  1. Protect Your Ears From Loud Noise Anyone that works around machines that constantly cause a loud noise, knows that after a while not even many years .They start suffering from bad hearing. The human ear is not made for being constantly exposed to loud sounds; it is unnatural and will, in many cases, have severe consequences. Not only factory workers or those individuals that have to listen to noise all day long or all night in the case, often, of DJ’s and partygoers – but also gun and rifle shooters and enthusiasts are exposed to high noise levels. A lot of good information is available these days for hunters and shooters to avail themselves of in terms of a good understanding of when – and when not – the sound is acceptable. Sound levels are measured in dB (decibel), and graphs in books and on internet sites show how dB is increased according to the activity that produces sound. For example, normal conversation is measured at 60 dB, a lawnmower at 90 and a jet take off at close to 150. Tests have been done, and are carried out all the time, to establish what levels are acceptable. Even constant exposure to, say, 60 dB will not cause hearing loss; however, above 85, many agree, there could be a possibility of hearing problems if you are exposed to this level all the time – and definitely once you are exposed to 90 dB and more regularly. For shooters, i.e. hunters and competition shooters, those taking part in shooting activities of any kind – also instructors – it is good to know that gunshots are measured at around 120 dB, clearly putting the shooter in the danger zone, the area that could certainly cause severe hearing problems. It is said that even one single gunfire shot could cause impaired hearing. It, therefore, makes sense for shooters to look at ways to protect their ears from the effects of loud noise caused by gunfire. Some buy over the counter products such as wax plugs, for example, but they - and

  2. other similar products – are hardly the answer. They may not fit your ear properly, they may cause discomfort and, importantly, they block out all sound. Therefore shooters, more than ever before, turn to the latest, technologically advanced products such as devices that do block out and eliminate the effects of harmful sound while, at the same time, allowing the user to hear sounds that will not harm the ear, such as those of animals in the bush where you hunt, or the voice of your hunting partner next to you – or the voice of the instructor that gives commands on the shooting range. This, obviously, is the ideal situation: you protect your ears from damaging sounds, but you have the benefit of listening to normal sound, which will give you a tactical advantage over your prey, for example. It makes sense that this is a specialized service offered by suppliers that design and manufacture these devices to offer the mentioned features. The best ones among them are digitally enhanced to allow through the exact sounds that are not harmful but may actually assist the hunter in the field, while it will block out sounds such as a gun fire. Also, these are not available to buy over the counter of your gun shop: you have them made especially for you by contacting a service provider that does produce these. They normally make molds of your ears so that they can work with every detail that is unique to a person’s ear to be able to come up with the exact protection for the shooter. Depending on the firm you are dealing with, the best ones actually offer this as an online service today: you simply send them the applicable information which they need. They manufacture the hearing protection device and ship it to you. Nothing could be easier. And: you are assured of a device that offers you all the features you want when you’re shooting – and you protect your hearing.
